Zelenski: ‘The second phase of the evacuation from Mariupol has been completed’

In his daily address to the nation, Zelenski reported that the second step of the Mariupol evacuation operation had been completed and that 344 people had been rescued from the city and its suburbs.

Stating that the necessary assistance was provided to the evacuees, Zelenski said, “Negotiations are ongoing and we hope to continue rescuing people from Azovstal, Mariupol. “There are still civilians, women and children there,” he said.

Also, Zelensky announced that 36-year-old journalist Oleksandr Makhov died in clashes near Izyum in Kharkiv region. Zelenski stated that Makhov, who was born in the Luhansk region, was the first Ukrainian journalist to visit the Ukrainian station in Antarctica in 2017, lived for 2 weeks in Sanzhary, where the Ukrainians brought from China were during the Covid period, and has been willingly at the front since the first day of the war. Zelenski expressed his condolences to Makhov’s relatives and friends, while using the expressions “patriotic, sincere, always free from arrogance” about the journalist.

On the other hand, Zelensky stated that he met with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennet and they talked about the situation in eastern Ukraine and especially in Mariupol. Zelenski said that he also met with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and said, “We agreed on the next diplomatic steps to be taken for peace. “We discussed how to bring all war criminals to justice,” he said.
