In Vietnam, it was announced that Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long and Hanoi Mayor Chu Ngoc Anh were detained due to the exorbitant price of corona virus tests.

Long and Anh are under investigation and expelled from the ruling party, the Ministry of Public Security said in a statement.

Long and Anh were detained as part of the investigations.

In previous investigations, it was determined that the authorities allowed Viet A Technology Company to inflate the prices of Covid-19 tests supplied to hospitals and health centers.

It was stated that an investigation was launched against 60 people, including ministry officials, public health officials and military workers, for their involvement in exorbitant pricing.

In the investigation report, it was mentioned that the violations of Long and Anh damaged Vietnam’s way of dealing with Covid-19 and burdened the state budget.

The chief executive of Viet A, who was previously detained, admitted that his company had sold the tests at more than 45 percent of the usual price to get the $21.5 million difference.
