The Union of Turkish Bar Associations (TBB) submitted in writing the urgent measures to be taken to prevent violence against lawyers.
ANKARA (IGFA) – Turkish Bar Association (TBB) Leader Atty. R. Erinç Sağkan conveyed in writing the urgent measures to be taken to prevent violence against lawyers to the Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ.
Pointing out that the violence against lawyers has increased so much that colleagues cannot carry out their duties in recent years, Sağkan said that the last incident in Istanbul and our colleague Atty. He noted that the act of violence that resulted in the death of Servet Bakırtaş showed once again that the lawyers were extremely vulnerable while performing their mission.
Union Leader Sağkan stated that it was seen that the procedures followed so far were not sufficient in terms of precautionary violence and deterrence, and said, “In this context, Law on Attorneyship 110/3-11. As the Union of Turkish Bar Associations, which has the mission to protect the general interests of lawyers in accordance with the elements of the law, our proposals, which are presented below, should be implemented as soon as possible in order to get out of the violence spiral.
Proposals for urgent measures were presented in areas where the lawyer is in a vulnerable position and where there is a possibility of exposure to violence.
