The US has approved updated Covid-19 vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna.

In a written statement made on the FDA’s website, “Today, the US Food and Drug Administration has amended the emergency use authorizations of Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccines, allowing the two-stage formulation of the vaccines to be used as a single booster dose with a deadline of at least two months.” phrase was included.

However, the FDA has authorized Pfizer’s modified booster for individuals aged 12 years and older, while ending Moderna’s vaccine for those aged 18 and over.

It has been noted that the approved boosters are suitable for those who have had their first two doses of vaccines and booster vaccines at least two months ago.

It was reported that the booster doses of the two companies targeted the BA.5 Omicron sub-variant.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that the BA.5 Omicron subvariant accounts for approximately 90 percent of all new Covid-19 cases in the United States.

Vaccines must also be approved by CDC Administrator Rochelle Walensky before they can be administered.
