The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated in its statement yesterday that scientists and pediatricians across the country are working on the source of the disease and stated that the acute hepatitis incident of unknown origin reached 180 in 36 states. “While this seems to be a large increase in patients under review over the past two weeks, it’s important to understand that the vast majority of these are patients we consider ‘retrospective’ patients,” the CDC said of the number of events. Emphasizing that not all of the incidents were new incidents, but mostly retrospective incidents, it was stated that the number of incidents announced on 5 May was 109.

Stating that there has been no death due to acute hepatitis since February 2022, CDC stated that the events requiring liver transplantation have decreased from 15 percent to 9 percent since May 5th. . With the study carried out on the source of the disease, possible causes continue to be examined, including testing and excluding a number of viruses that commonly cause hepatitis (hepatitis A, B, C, D and E). It was emphasized that “Adenovirus” (a virus that infects the respiratory tract and intestinal system) was detected in almost half of the children, and this was a valuable clue.

CDC, stating that it will hold an information meeting on May 19, said, “It is important not to forget that severe hepatitis is rare in children. However, we encourage parents and caregivers to be aware of the symptoms of hepatitis (especially jaundice with yellowing of the skin or eyes) and to contact their child’s health care provider on any suspicion.
