In Marmolada, the highest point of the Dolomite Mountains, which forms part of the Alps in the middle of the Trentino and Veneto regions of Italy, an avalanche disaster occurred as a result of the rupture of the glacier on 3 July.

The number of people who lost their lives in the incident increased to 11 after the body of one more person was reached during the ongoing search and rescue efforts in the region.

Experts stated that the glaciers in Italy are melting faster than usual due to climate change.
