The Presidential memorandum of extending the deadline of 18 months for sending soldiers to Libya was submitted to the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

ANKARA (IGFA) – Presidential motion to extend the deadline for sending troops to Libya by 18 months has been submitted to the Presidency of the Assembly.

As a result of the Libyan Political Dialogue, which lasted about a year, with the participation of all parties, under the facilitation of the United Nations (UN), in order to establish peace and stability, upon the establishment of a ceasefire in Libya, the establishment of political integrity and the inability to establish a functioning state apparatus, it was stated in the memorandum. It was reminded that the Treaty was signed on 17 December 2015 in the Moroccan city of Suheyrat.

In the memorandum, which stated that the ceasefire and political dialogue process could be paved under the leadership and ownership of the Libyans, the following terms were included:

“Turkey maintains its strong foundation in efforts to protect Libya’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and political unity, to establish a permanent ceasefire in the country, and to political dialogue efforts that will ensure national reconciliation. The political uncertainty and administration problem that emerged after the planned elections could not be held risk the tranquility established in the area with great sacrifices and create an important obstacle to achieving permanent stability.This situation causes concern for the security of Libya and the entire region. in the Mediterranean and the historical, political and economic relations between the two countries that have further developed, the continuation of the ceasefire and political dialogue process in Libya and the establishment of peace as a result of this process. In the aforementioned memorandum, it was noted that the decision given on January 2, 2020 was extended for 18 months as of January 2, 2021, and it was decided to extend the permission for the new resolution for another 18 months as of July 2, 2022.
