ANKARA (IGFA) – General Leader of the Green Crescent Prof. Dr. Mücahit Öztürk, in his statement on the occasion of “June 26, Day of Effort with Drug Use and Smuggling”, reminded that the 15-24 age group is the most risky cluster in terms of the risk of starting to use drugs and invited families to be closer with their children. Öztürk said: “Curiosity, wannabe, proving oneself, being deprived of family love, being in a vacuum, unfortunately can push our young people to drugs. We ask our families to take care of their children closely and connect with them. They should be informed about addiction and in cases where treatment is needed, they should look at their children as a patient who needs to be adapted, not as a fault.”

Stating that drug use is a common problem of the whole world, Öztürk stated that a total effort is needed with drug addiction and said, “We have to inform the whole society, especially children and young people, about addictions and raise awareness. As the Green Crescent, we bring together scientific and health authorities with national and international congresses, inform the society with our printed publications that we have been continuing for years, reach everyone from 7 to 77 with our training programs, and support academic studies in the field of addiction with our scholarship supports. We carry out informative and preventive studies in cooperation with all relevant institutions and organizations within the scope of the High Council of Effort with Addiction, and we are instrumental in their realization.”

The Green Crescent General Leader, who stated that the most important reasons for drug use, according to the researches, are the level of education and the troubled family structure, said: we are running. Our model, with which we reach approximately 10 million children and 3 million adults every year in Turkey, set an example for the world and was translated into different languages and implemented in 10 countries. We also reach children and youth with our Intervention for Addiction at School and Lifetime Skills Training Programs, which are complementary to each other. Green Crescent Counseling Centers (YEDAM) and 81 provinces and Cyprus; We provide free psychological and social support to addicts and their families in 105 centers. Our centers, where specialist psychologists and social service specialists have a mission, provide addicted individuals with drug cessation and face-to-face counseling, cluster therapies, and social support services. In addition, those who wish can get service from our expert psychologists at the end of the phone by using our 115 YEDAM consultation line.”

Stating that drugs cause significant physiological, psychological and social destructions in the person who uses them, and that synthetic drugs, which have become widespread recently, can cause death even in the first use, Öztürk said, “Drug addiction is a disease that affects not only the user, but also his family and surroundings in an extremely negative direction. “The reasons for the increase in drug use rates and what to do with it are a common issue for all of us,” he said.
