In the SIGAR report, prepared by the top officials of the United States Department of Defense (Pentagon) and presented to the US Congress, attention was drawn to the effect of the withdrawal process in the defeat of the Afghan army .

It was stated that the former US President Donald Trump’s agreement with the Taliban on the withdrawal of international forces from Afghanistan in 2020 caused a “serious loss of morale” in the Afghan army.

In the report, it was noted that many Afghans saw the US agreement with the Taliban as “a malicious act and believed that the US handed over Afghanistan to the enemy in order to withdraw quickly”.

It was reported that the leading US defense officials advised the government to leave approximately 2,500 US soldiers in Afghanistan, but the plan in question was not implemented.

In the report, which emphasized that the US intelligence could not foresee the rapid collapse of the Afghan government, it was stated that the USA was not successful in providing resources to the Afghan army and training the soldiers.

The report also pointed out the negative consequences of making the Afghan army highly dependent on US technology.

Following the process that started with the withdrawal of international forces from Afghanistan in 2021, within the framework of the peace agreement reached in February 2020 between the USA and the Taliban, the capital city The Taliban, besieging Kabul, took the city under their control without conflict after President Ashraf Ghani left the country on August 15, 2021.

The USA completed the withdrawal process from Afghanistan on August 31, 2021.
