Passenger train derailed in Iran: 17 dead

According to the Iranian official agency IRNA, Tabas Special Governor Ali Akbar Rahimi reported that four wagons of a train derailed this morning and all Red Crescent, emergency and railway rescue units were transferred to the area.

Stating that 17 people lost their lives and 12 were injured, but this number may increase due to the severity of the accident, Rahimi noted that ambulances as well as helicopters were sent to the scene.

South Khorasan Red Crescent Director Muhammed Istek Rızayi also stated that the train derailed at 05.30 in the morning at the 50th kilometer of the Tabas-Yezd road (Mezino station).

Rızayi stated that 6 Kızılay groups have been sent to the scene so far, and that the work of the rescue teams continues.
