Ankara University Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. Fugitive retired colonel Mustafa Levent Göktaş, one of the murder suspects of the Necip Hablemitoğlu assassination, was caught in Svilengrad, Bulgaria.

According to the statement made by the Ministry of Interior, fugitive retired colonel Mustafa Levent Göktaş, about whom a red notice was issued upon the request of the EGM Interpol Department, was detained in Svilengrad.


Hablemitoğlu died as a result of the assassination on 18 December 2002 in front of his residence in Ankara. While one of the suspects, Nuri Gökhan Bozkır, was wanted with a red notice, he was caught by the MIT and brought to Turkey, handed over to the police on January 27, and arrested on February 8 for “membership in a terrorist organization” and “premeditated killing”.

Six people were detained on 3 February on the grounds that they were in contact with Nuri Gökhan Bozkır. While 3 of them were released after taking their word, 2 of them were arrested on February 15, and one of them was released with the name control rule.

The Ministry of Justice and the EGM Interpol Department initiated the processes for Göktaş’s extradition to Turkey.
