The security problems in the country have worsened since the former Head of State of Haiti, Jovenel Moise, died on July 7, 2021, in an attack on his home by armed individuals.
Germine Joly, the leader of the gang called “400 Mawozo”, known as “Yonyon” by some circles in Haiti, was caught and extradited to the USA. The Haitian National Police confirmed in its statement that in October 2021, the gang leader accused of kidnapping 16 Americans and a Canadian, including 5 children, was extradited to the United States.
Stating that this decision was made upon the name request of the US judicial authorities, the authorities reported that Joly was sent to the USA yesterday by the Federal Investigation Office (FBI) plane.
Joly will be charged with kidnapping of US citizens, ransom, arms and drug trafficking charges.

It was reported that the missionaries were kidnapped by the gang known as “400 Mawozo” while returning to the USA after building an orphanage in Haiti. The Haiti Human Rights Research and Analysis Center (CARDH) announced on December 16 that all the hostages held by the gang had been released.
It is known that there has been a significant increase in kidnapping incidents by gangs in Haiti lately, demanding ransoms ranging from a few hundred dollars to 1 million dollars. At least 328 kidnappings were reported to the Haitian National Police in the first eight months of 2021, according to a report released last month by the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti. This number was 234 in 2020.
