According to the news reported by BBC News, in the image circulating on social media and which cannot be verified by independent sources, it is seen that health officials gather around 67-year-old Abe in the middle of the street. The former Prime Minister was later hospitalized.

Minister Hirozoku Matsuno told reporters, “Former Prime Minister Abe was shot at around 11:30 am local time in Nara. A person believed to be the attacker was caught. Former Prime Minister Abe’s condition is currently unknown.”

Eyewitnesses said that before the raid on Abe, who was traveling to Nara for a campaign speech, they saw a man pulling out a large gun from behind him.
