Double feast in olive oil sector… Export ban lifted

The restriction imposed on the export of bulk olive oil in March 2022 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry on the grounds of ensuring food supply security was lifted as of 7 July 2022. Olive oil exporters enjoyed the dual holiday.

İZMİR (İGFA) – Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters’ Union Leader Davut Er, who emphasized that the ban on olive oil exports in packages over 5 kg in 2021 and 2022 was a wrong decision in every environment, and on the occasion of their request to lift the ban in the meetings held at the relevant authorities in the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. He stated that he had quoted them once again, and that the July ministry had lifted the ban as of 7.

According to Turkey’s National Olive and Olive Oil Board data; Pointing out that they entered the 2021/22 period with 48 thousand tons of stock and a yield of 235 thousand tons, Private Leader said that they entered the new period with a stock that can be exported in the middle of 90-100 thousand tons.

Reminding that Turkey has made great investments in olive cultivation in the last 20 years, EZZİB Leader Davut Er said, “Our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry increased our olive tree assets from 90 million to 190 million. When these trees become fully productive, 650 thousand tons of olive oil, 1 million 200 thousand tons of table olives. In order for this crop to turn into an added value, export channels must always be open. The restriction in olive oil exports must be removed from our minds,” he said.

OLIVE OIL EXPORTS INCREASED AGAINST THE PROHIBITION

In the 2021/22 olive oil export period, which started on November 1, 2021, Turkey provided a foreign exchange return of 124 million 798 thousand dollars in return for the export of 36 thousand 797 tons of olive oil in an 8-month period. In the same period of the 2020/21 period, olive oil exports were 28 thousand 504 tons on a measure basis and 82 million 751 thousand dollars in foreign currency income.

While olive oil exports increased by 29 percent on a measure basis, the increase in foreign exchange income reached 51 percent.
