According to the news of the North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), 262 thousand 270 individuals have seen signs of high fever in the last 24 hours, so the number of people with high fever since the end of April has increased to 1.98 million in the country.

In North Korea, where 1 person died in the last 24 hours, the death toll rose to 63.

While approximately 1.2 million of the people with symptoms of high fever regained their health, 740 thousand 160 people were isolated.

CAN CAUSE A HUMANITARIAN CRISIS

It was announced that 6 people died in the country on May 13, and it was officially announced that the death of only one of these individuals was caused by the Omicron variant of Covid-19.

A major epidemic in North Korea, where the health system is not very suitable and the people are not vaccinated against Covid-19, could lead to a humanitarian crisis.

North Korea had rejected millions of doses of vaccine offers made by the World Health Organization’s Global Access Program for Covid-19 Vaccines (COVAX), which aims to ensure equal access to vaccines for low- and middle-income countries.

While North Korea claims that the epidemic did not spread in the country thanks to determined measures, it is said that the closed border gates dealt a significant blow to the country’s economy.
