Following the Supreme Court’s abortion decision, US President Joe Biden signed a decree guaranteeing women’s access to abortion and their rights in obstetrics and gynecology.
Biden held a press conference at the White House with the participation of Deputy Leader Kamala Harris and Minister of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra.
In his speech before the signing ceremony, Biden gave the Supreme Court’s decision that made abortion a constitutional right, saying, “The Supreme Court’s decision was not a constitutional judicial decision. It was the action of a purely political power.” made his comment.
Biden invited Congress to pass a bill on this issue so that abortion would be recognized as a right again, and said, “The fastest way to regain the right to abortion is a law that I will sign as soon as it comes to my desk. “
When asked if China will remove customs duties, Biden said, “I haven’t made my decision on this issue now.” he answered.
Biden also added that he will stop by the Japanese Embassy in Washington today and sign the condolence book opened for former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo, who lost his life as a result of the attack.
WHAT’S IN THE DECISION?
With the decree signed after Biden’s speech, the Ministry of Health and Human Services will take steps to protect women’s access to abortion drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
In addition, relevant health institutions will regulate access to emergency services for pregnant women and miscarriages.
Biden will order the Ministry of Health and Human Services to expand access to birth control techniques and provide free access to contraceptive drugs and counseling.
HIGH COURT DECISION ON Abortion
On June 24, the US Supreme Court overturned the 1973 “Roe-Wade decision” that constitutionally guaranteed the right to abortion nationwide.
While abortion ceased to be a constitutional right with the decision, the laws on this issue were left to the states’ own initiatives.
THE DECISION LEAKED TO THE PRESS IN MAY
The US political broadcaster “Politico” published the decision in question in May, and the Supreme Court confirmed the accuracy of the news.
The American media emphasized that a decision to be announced by the Supreme Court in this direction would have an earthquake effect in the country and the political division would increase even more.
