Ministry of Family and Social Services gave the start of “Trainings on Supporting Effort Provincial Action Plans with Early and Forced Marriages” in 21 provinces.
ANKARA (IGFA) – Afyonkarahisar, Ardahan, Edirne and Siirt were also included in the ‘Effort Action Plan Against Early and Forced Marriages’, which was put into effect in 17 provinces in harmony with the Ministry of Family and Social Services. It is being expanded by adding 4 more provinces to the action plans put into practice in 2017.
In the statement made by the Ministry of Family and Social Services, attention was drawn to the field visits made in this regard.
The statement underlined that in line with the work carried out by the government with the participation of all relevant parties, including public institutions and organizations, universities and non-governmental organizations, for the prevention of early marriages, the ministry also carries out studies in provinces where the rates of early and forced marriages are high. In Aksaray, Bitlis, Diyarbakır, Gaziantep, Hatay, Iğdır, Kahramanmaraş, Kars, Kilis, Mardin, Muş, Nevşehir, Niğde, Şanlıurfa, Van, Yozgat, based on the priority needs of the provinces, to prepare “Effort Plans for Early and Forced Marriages” During the field visits, interviews were held with the representatives of the relevant public institutions, and reports on early marriage were prepared, and a special “Effort Provincial Action Plan for Early and Forced Marriage” was prepared for each province.
It was noted that in the action plans, it was aimed to prepare visual and written materials for different purpose clusters, to inform the muhtars about the relevant legislation, and to increase the awareness and sensitivity of the families through the muhtars. As a result of the government’s reinforcements and the action plans implemented in the provinces, the marriages in the 16-17 age group decreased proportionally, according to the data in the 2021 Marriage Statistics.
